The Mysterious Disappearance of Santiago Flight 513.

On September 4, 1954, Santiago Airlines Flight 513 departed from Aachen, West Germany, destined for Porto Alegre, Brazil. The flight should have taken around 18 hours.
Instead, it took 35 years. On October 12, 1989, without any contact with air traffic controllers, Santiago Flight 513 was spotted circling the Porto Alegre airport, where it eventually made a successful landing.

It’s not unheard of for planes to disappear, though there’s usually evidence of what probably happens during those events to indicate that the plane has crashed debris, luggage, or, at a minimum, records of the pilot radioing for help.

Then there are those aircraft that set off, traveling from point A to point B, and are never heard from again, with nothing left behind, no reports of distress not even poor weather conditions to pin the blame on. These stories, though puzzling and eerie, have occurred often enough to have attracted the expertise of scientists and meteorologists , looking for a pattern among the disappearances. Perhaps the most famous of these incidences are tales from the Bermuda Triangle, the legendary vortex where aircraft and ships just seem to vanish without a trace.

There was nothing abnormal about the aircraft, the crew, or the passengers. Santiago Flight 513 had taken many similar intercontinental flights across the Atlantic Ocean as it did on the day it went missing.
When it went missing over the Atlantic Ocean, emergency search and rescue teams scoured the area, but to no avail, eventually giving up the aircraft, and everyone aboard, for lost.

It would be an understatement to say that when Flight 513 flew into Porto Alegre it was unexpected. At first, authorities demanded to know why its pilot had flown in without warning.
But when they approached the craft and took note of its age, they were baffled to discover that it belonged to Santiago Airlines, an airline that had shut its doors in 1956.

Upon opening the doors, authorities found something still more shocking: the skeletons of 92 people, buckled into their seats. The skeletal body of Captain Miguel Victor Cury was found in his pilot’s seat, hands on the controls, with the engine still humming.

Could It Be a Government Cover-Up?

While the Brazilian government did investigate this strange occurrence, it refused to offer any explanations or theories, much less draw any conclusions. All officials eventually admitted was that the plane had appeared suddenly in the skies and landed successfully a write-off that has resulted in many people suspecting government involvement in the disappearance.
Such unresponsiveness interpreted as secrecy from the government has evoked ire from the public over the years.
Dr. Celso Atello, a paranormal researcher, speculated that the government is actually hiding concrete evidence that wormholes exist, and that the plane had been lost in one for more than three decades.

What Is a “Wormhole”?

When it comes to cases of disappearing aircraft, one theoretical explanation commonly arises that the craft are disappearing into wormholes. According to the Scientific American, “Wormholes are solutions to the Einstein field equations for gravity that act as ‘tunnels,’ connecting points in space-time in such a way that the trip between the points through the wormhole could take much less time than the trip through normal space behave as ‘shortcuts’ in space-time.”
And because such notable scientists as Stephen Hawking entertain that wormholes might actually exist, those intrigued by unsolved aviation mysteries often contemplate how the theory would apply to various cases of missing aircraft over the years, including the many disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle. Over the Atlantic Ocean, the wormhole theory could possibly explain much of what has transpired for decades, if not centuries, in the Bermuda Triangle.

After all, it’s not as though these incidents are small and insignificant , thousands of lives have been lost to these strange occurrences. Whether the losses can be attributed to wormholes, government cover-ups, or something else, the minimum that should be said is that something strange has happened, and perhaps it’s time to broaden everyone’s sense of what constitutes reality.

Skeleton Lake of Roopkund, India

Chamoli, India

A lake with hundreds of ancient skeletons surrounding it. The surprise is what killed them.

Know Before You Go

There are no roads to this place yet, so one has to undertake a 3-4 day trek to reach the skeleton lake starting from Gwaldum in Chamoli district. The skeleton lake is covered with ice for most of the time during the year.

IN 1942 A BRITISH FOREST guard in Roopkund, India made an alarming discovery. Some 16,000 feet above sea level, at the bottom of a small valley, was a frozen lake absolutely full of skeletons. That summer, the ice melting revealed even more skeletal remains, floating in the water and lying haphazardly around the lake’s edges. Something horrible had happened here.

The immediate assumption (it being war time) was that these were the remains of Japanese soldiers who had died of exposure while sneaking through India. The British government, terrified of a Japanese land invasion, sent a team of investigators to determine if this was true. However upon examination they realized these bones were not from Japanese soldiers—they weren’t fresh enough.

It was evident that the bones were quite old indeed. Flesh, hair, and the bones themselves had been preserved by the dry, cold air, but no one could properly determine exactly when they were from. More than that, they had no idea what had killed over 200 people in this small valley. Many theories were put forth including an epidemic, landslide, and ritual suicide. For decades, no one was able to shed light on the mystery of Skeleton Lake.

However, a 2004 expedition to the site seems to have finally revealed the mystery of what caused those people’s deaths. The answer was stranger than anyone had guessed.

As it turns out, all the bodies date to around 850 AD. DNA evidence indicates that there were two distinct groups of people, one a family or tribe of closely related individuals, and a second smaller, shorter group of locals, likely hired as porters and guides. Rings, spears, leather shoes, and bamboo staves were found, leading experts to believe that the group was comprised of pilgrims heading through the valley with the help of the locals.

All the bodies had died in a similar way, from blows to the head. However, the short deep cracks in the skulls appeared to be the result not of weapons, but rather of something rounded. The bodies also only had wounds on their heads, and shoulders as if the blows had all come from directly above. What had killed them all, porter and pilgrim alike?

Among Himalayan women there is an ancient and traditional folk song. The lyrics describe a goddess so enraged at outsiders who defiled her mountain sanctuary that she rained death upon them by flinging hailstones “hard as iron.” After much research and consideration, the 2004 expedition came to the same conclusion. All 200 people died from a sudden and severe hailstorm.

Trapped in the valley with nowhere to hide or seek shelter, the “hard as iron” cricket ball-sized [about 23 centimeter/9 inches circumference] hailstones came by the thousands, resulting in the travelers’ bizarre sudden death. The remains lay in the lake for 1,200 years until their discovery.

LAKE NATRON: LITERAL HELL ON EARTH FOR MOST CREATURES.

When photographer Nick Brandt was traveling to shoot photos for a new book on the disappearing wildlife of East Africa, 'Across the Ravaged Land',he came across a truly astounding place, a natural lake that seemingly turns all sorts of animals into stone.

“When I saw those creatures for the first time alongside the lake, I was completely blown away,” says Brandt. “The idea for me, instantly, was to take portraits of them as if they were alive.”

Lake Natron, in Africa’s Great Rift Valley, practically sends a warning with its color. This bright red lake is the world’s most caustic body of water, but not to everything. An endemic species of fish, the alkaline tilapia, lives along the edges of the hotspring inlets, and the lake actually derives its color from salt-loving microorganisms that thrive in its alkaline waters.

The ghastly Lake Natron, in northern Tanzania, is a salt lake—meaning that water flows in, but doesn’t flow out, so it can only escape by evaporation. Over time, as water evaporates, it leaves behind high concentrations of salt and other minerals, giving the lake a slightly different appearance each time it is photographed by astronauts or imaged by satellites, its temperature can reach a scalding 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit). It is so caustic that it can burn the skin and eyes of animals that aren't adapted to it.

Nick Brandt has captured haunting images of the lake and its dead in a book titled "Across the Ravaged Land".

8 Things You Didn’t Know About The Michigan Triangle

Although it's not as popular as The Bermuda Triangle, The Michigan Triangle has its own unique mysteries and oddities to discover.

Although it is not as famous as the Bermuda Triangle, a number of unusual events are equally inexplicable. From being hinted as a hotspot for UFO sightings to a gateway to a parallel universe, strange things have occurred here.

The mysterious Michigan Triangle is a part of the Great Lakes in North America and the area resembles an acute angle triangle. To be precise, it covers Lake Michigan, which is the largest freshwater lake in the United States. Along the left side of Michigan’s ‘mitten’, the first side of the triangle is formed by connecting Ludington to Benton Harbour, Michigan.

1) The First Abnormal Incident - 1679

The history of abnormal incidents in the Michigan Triangle can be traced to the late 17th century. It was a time when the world was exploring new ways and routes for expanding trade. Le Griffon, one of the largest sailing vessels of its time, set out on its maiden voyage in 1679 to find a northwest passage to China and Japan. All went well until the ship reached the Michigan triangle, never to come back. Although it is not the only ship that might have been submerged, the horrifying part is that no wreckage of the ship, nor any traces of the crew, have been found to date.

2) The Fury Of A Cloudless Sky

Who could have thought a clear and cloudless sky would cause harm to a ship. But that’s what has to be expected while in the Michigan Triangle. In 1883, the crew of a wooden tug boat named Mary McLane, that worked out of Chicago Harbor had a strange story to tell. They claimed to have witnessed mighty blocks of ice falling from the sky while on the lake. For a whole 30 minutes, it did not stop and was so powerful that it caused dents in the tug’s wooden surface. The crew managed to save a large chunk of ice in its galley icebox and recounted the horrific ordeal at the harbor.

3) The Disappearance Of The Thomas Hume

While speculation surrounding the disappearance of Le Griffon was yet to reach any consensus, another incident in the Michigan Triangle puzzled the area. The disappearance in 1891 of the Thomas Hume, a three-masted schooner on its journey from Chicago to Muskegon is still a topic of debate. Even a $300 reward to find some wreckage from the schooner went in vain. Surprisingly, after more than a century, in 2006, the wreckage of the Thomas Hume was discovered by a diver in the southern portion of Lake Michigan. The research continues to confirm its identity and the reason for its dramatic vanishing.

4) Home To The Underwater American Stonehenge

Did you know that not just England, but America too has a Stonehenge? The noticeable difference is that America’s is underwater and it is spooky. Archaeologists have discovered a structure made of stones, resembling a Stonehenge in a shallow segment of the Lake Michigan. There is also a boulder that features an image of a mastodon, a species that was extinct 10,000 years ago.
The exact location is not revealed to the world, presumably as the research is still being conducted and if it linked with the secrets of the peculiar Michigan Triangle. Moreover, It is still not known if the structure is man-made or naturally occurring.

5) A Single Ship Collision – Rosa Belle

It is a known fact any kind of collision has two or more forces involved in it. However, that’s not the case int the Michigan Triangle, at least that’s what the Rosa Belle incident reveals. In 1921, a ship named Rosa Bella with 11 members on board vanished in the Michigan Triangle. Unlike other incidents, the remains of the ship were found floating in Lake Michigan. However, it raised many eyebrows when it was found that the ship overturned due to a collision. An even more chilling fact is that there were no other ship accidents recorded at a similar time and no other remains were found.

6) The Strange Disappearance Of Captain George R. Donner

Another unexplained mystery about the Michigan Triangle is the disappearance of Captain George Donner who was guiding the ship named O.M. McFarland. In 1937, the ship was on the way to Port Washington, Wisconsin when the captain went to his cabin leaving a message to the crew members to awake him when they are near to port. The crew followed the instruction and knocked on the captain’s cabin, but received no response. Much to their surprise, the cabin was locked from inside and they had to break the door. However, the captain was nowhere to be found and he vanished without any trace. The frightened crew revealed that the ship was in the Michigan Triangle when the chilling incident occurred.

7) The Lost Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 2501

A deadly disaster again took place in the Michigan Triangle in 1950, but this time it was an aircraft. The Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 2501 with 55 passengers and 3 crew members was on its way from New York to Minneapolis when the fatal event occurred. Just before the flight vanished from radar, the captain had requested to descend to the cruising altitude to 2500 due to extreme and unexpected turbulence. The permission could not be granted and the flight continued at 3500 feet over Lake Michigan. The flight never reached its destination, nor was the plane’s wreckage found. The reason for the crash remains a mystery and the only remains found were body fragments and light debris.

8) The Unexplained Strange Appearances

Not only the disappearances, but strange appearances too have made the Michigan Triangle one of the most mysterious places in the world. In 1919, people have observed unusual and bright lights in the sky above the Michigan Triangle. They reveal that they have witnessed two large balls of fire fall into Lake Michigan and the explosion was so powerful that it shook the earth. The New York Times reported it as a Huge Meteor, but some still perceive this event as paranormal. Many reports of supposed UFO sightings at the same point above Michigan Triangle were reported later by the locals.

11 things you didn't know about Ouija | MNN - Mother Nature Network

Last year, Natasha went to a friend’s house for a party. Around one in the morning, the group decided to use a Ouija board. Natasha was the only one who believed in accounts of the paranormal so she was hesitant when her friends brought out the board. But instead of giving her friends more reasons to tease her when it came to the paranormal, she acted as if she didn’t believe in such activity.

They began asking the board questions. They started with a few normal questions, and nothing really exciting happened. Then someone asked if the spirit wanted to hurt them, and it responded with “only one.” The group started to get creeped out at this point—and rightfully so. When one friend asked the natural follow-up question, who, the board spelled out Natasha’s full name. It should be noted that she doesn’t care for their full name and has everyone call her Tasha instead. Tasha then left the room while her friends continued playing but found out later that night that the group forgot to say goodbye to the board. Anyone familiar with a Ouija board knows that closing the interaction with the spirit is crucial before stopping use of the board. Needless to say, she was nervous.

After this, Tasha has no memory of the night. She only remembers getting a migraine and nosebleeds. Her friends took videos of her acting strangely, speaking with a changed voice, and a few instances of her talking in other languages. However, that night wasn’t the only time this happened. In the days following, Tasha’s parents reported the same things happening. Once again, she remembered nothing but migraines and nosebleeds.

About two weeks later, she was back to normal. Or so she thought. Tasha was suddenly hospitalized for an excruciating pain in her kidney—so bad that it almost shut down. The doctors tried everything but couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Then, on the day she were scheduled for surgery, the pain suddenly stopped. One day later, Tasha was released.

Since that incident, she has never felt like she was truly alone. Sometimes, she feels someone grabbing her hands or neck, making it difficult to breathe. Tasha has always believed in the paranormal, but this experience made it far more real for her.
